South…

South GA.jpg

Deep south, Georgia, on the Suwannee River. A park off of Interstate 75 that gives weary travelers a break, if headed north maybe a last look at the old time south.

If you were to visit in the summertime you would find that areas like this are ruled by gnats, mosquitos, cicadas and tree frogs. A mishmash of sounds assault your ears as the cicadas and frogs sing their songs while constant buzzing of the mosquitos are in and out of your ears.  Don’t worry, the gnats have you eyes and nose occupied.

It’s easy to feel transported to a different time and place where nature rules and man is an afterthought. I can’t wait to go back.

Maui at night

SS HM-n.jpg

This photo was shot 13 years ago with a early design digital camera. I know it was taken on the island of Maui, Hawaii and I think, pretty sure, seem to remember it was a night shot. But, it’s digital and we live in the world of Photoshop. Maybe it was a sunset, or sunrise and I was goofing around some years ago in Photoshop. Guess I’ll have to check the RAW file but I kinda like it as a night image, full moon shining on the sea….

Quackery

Duck 2.jpg

I took this photo off my dock yesterday, which since nothing ever leaves the internet was a day late in January. I was testing out a old film lens, 600mm that a friend has offered to sell  me. Using film lenses with digital cameras requires some work but can be a viable option to expand your equipment if you are selective.

My subject here was far enough away from me that he really didn’t pay me much attention, he was barely visible to the casual eye…. blending into the background as these guys do so well. It was the movement that caught my attention, then using this big old honking lens I found him in the camera and watched for a long time while taking a few images along the way.  It was a quite pleasant way to spend a winter afternoon.
